COB Information Requests
Periodically SummaCare updates their records to include information about all other healthcare coverage their members may have. This updating of records is called Coordination of Benefits (COB). State law requires SummaCare to administer a COB procedure because combined payments by all plans should not exceed what has been billed to our members by their healthcare providers. This aids in reducing costs by ensuring that reimbursement is accurate.
If SummaCare does not hear from members, claims they receive may be denied because they are unable to determine the appropriate responsible party. Members may update their information by doing one of the following:
- Updating COB information online through their Plan Central account
- Calling the Member Services line on the back of their SummaCare Member ID card
There is no action you need to take as a broker, we are simply letting you know that this is occurring.
