It’s no secret that the world of talent acquisition is constantly evolving. In the post-pandemic world, we are seeing constantly changing trends amongst the new generations of job seekers and companies are finding it more and more difficult to source quality candidates for all types of roles. With 97 million new jobs expected to be created by 2025 (World Economic Forum, 2020), it is an employee’s market and job seekers are no longer settling. So, what are some things companies can do to be more successful in finding the right candidates?
Evaluate your company culture and benefits
It’s no longer enough to have a competitive pay scale for your positions. Job seekers are now looking at the “total rewards package” and what they can gain from working at your company. Competitive benefits such as parental leave, continuing education assistance, generous PTO, flexible scheduling, and childcare assistance are just some examples of ways companies can make their benefit package stand out amongst others.
Employees also have a stronger desire to be part of a culture of inclusiveness and belonging. They want to feel welcomed at work and like they have a purpose. According to Forbes, a study of 19,700 post-exit interviews found that only 12% of employees left their company for more money. This suggests that a salary is no longer the main driving factor for employee satisfaction. Companies should strive for a company culture that aligns with their core values so that employees feel like they matter and look forward to coming to work every day.
Revisit your Job Ads
It’s very important to have a job ad that catches the reader’s eye and is short, sweet, and to the point. Rewrite that 2-page job description into an ad with short sentences and bullet points. Start with a simple boiler plate statement about why your company is great to work for, then list the requirements of the job. Be transparent about the pay range and avoid a large range. Most job seekers will skip right over an ad that does not list the pay rate. Be sure to highlight your benefits package and the benefits that make your company stick out.
Flexible and Hybrid Scheduling
The pandemic forced us to get away from the standard 9-5 schedule. People now more than ever are valuing a strong work/life balance and quality time with family. Allowing employees to work remotely where possible and providing them flexible scheduling to make their lives easier is a sure way to attract and retain talent. Trust your employees to get their jobs done efficiently while making time for their personal life and loved ones.
Bottom Line: These are only a few examples of ways that companies can better attract talent in this difficult job market. We can help you work with your clients to create and implement strategies that both attract future employees and retain current employees long-term!
